Cafe Funkie Town – A true Bombay Parsi Cafe
I had always heard about beautiful Parsi Cafes & but unfortunately ever tried any … thanks to Sherry for inviting me to this authentic Parsi cafe Cafe Funkie Town located in Bay Avenue, Business Bay.
The quintessential café culture was pioneered in the 60’s by the Irani cafés in Bombay, passionately run by Parsis. The interiors are also taken care of in the same way. The bent wood chairs, marble tables, walls clad with vintage parsi frames & the very strict & bizarre café rules to follow.
Cafe Funkie Town is an ode, a tribute to the cafés of that old Bombay era. Café Funkie town is the only Irani café In Dubai serving authentic Parsi food which is from recipes past on from a generation which knew the true sense of living and loving.
Coming back to food, we started with the authentic Parsi … Chicken Farcha … a Parsi celebratory dish with boneless chicken merinated with coriander & Chilli, dipped in egg & deep fried … definitely a must try.
Next we tried the Sali Boti … another delicacy from Parsi cuisine… it’s made with tender chicken cooked in the gravy of ginger-garlic, onions, tomatoes, a fast of yogurt, saffron & mild spices … served with potato straws (sally) & butter naan. It tastes amazing. ..not to be missed.
We also had the Mixed grill platter…. quite a huge portion… it comes with some mouth watering selection of chicken Tikka, chicken hara Tikka, Boti kebab, mutton seekh kabab, chicken seekh kabab & mutton chop… served with naan & salad … a complete feast for meat lovers like us.
Among the Beverages, we opted for Mango Lassi & Rose Strawberry Mojito… both were good.
The show stopper of the whole meal was the Karak Chai & Bun Maska … literally is served with loads of Maska 😍😍… certainly highly recommendable.
To sum it all, a highly recommendable place, specially for those who love the cafe culture of Parsi people.
